Man gets change of venue for chase charges

A change of venue has been granted to a Salem man who led authorities on a high-speed chase in December 2011 after killing two people and was caught after a shootout with authorities in Jefferson City.

Marvin Rice, 47, will have his Cole County charges heard in Callaway County.

He has been charged with assault of a law officer, armed criminal action and resisting arrest.

Rice is also facing two counts of first-degree murder in Dent County for the killings of Annette Durham and Steven Strotkamp.

Rice, a former Dent County deputy, led authorities on a chase that started in Osage County and ended at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City, where he was in a gunfight with authorities who shot him.

This came after authorities said he shot his ex-wife and her boyfriend at Strotkamp's residence near Salem.

Rice went into the residence and demanded one of his two children be returned to his custody.

After an arguement, Rice is believed to have shot Durham and Strotkamp.
