Owasso tops Raytown South in Great 8

The Owasso (Okla.) Rams put four players in double figures and recorded a 61-55 win against Raytown South in a loser's bracket semifinal Tuesday at the Great 8 Classic.

Kinzer Lambert led the way for the Rams by racking up a double-double at Fleming Fieldhouse, as he dropped in 16 points and tied for the game high with 11 rebounds.

DeShanon Lowe pumped in a game-high 17 points for Owasso, while Courtre' Alexander added 12 and Josh Proctor had 11.

Raytown South was led by Savon Witt's 15 points. Devon Wells added 13 and Richard Campbell had 10. Jabril Cox added eight points for the Cardinals and joined Lambert with 11 rebounds.

Owasso took an 11-8 lead after one quarter, but Raytown South used an 8-1 run early in the second quarter to take its biggest lead to that point at 15-12.

But the Rams closed out the half with a 10-4 run to take a 22-19 edge into the locker room.

Owasso then opened the third quarter with an 11-4 spurt to take its biggest lead of the night at 33-23. That was when Raytown South came roaring back, putting on a 17-4 run to lead 40-37.

Owasso scored the final two points of the third quarter - trailing 40-39 heading to the fourth - and the first four of the final period to take the lead for good.

Raytown South did tie it twice in the fourth, the last coming at 48, before Owasso had one last push. A 7-0 run keyed by five points from Lambert, effectively ended it.

After getting called for seven charges in a first-round loss to Helias, Owasso was called for three more Tuesday. Raytown South was whistled for two.

Raytown South will play Joplin at 2:30 p.m. today for seventh place, while Owasso will take on Jefferson City at 4 p.m. in the fifth-place game.
