Enrollment down slightly at Southeast Missouri State

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Enrollment at Southeast Missouri State University is down for the first time in 20 years.

The university says fall enrollment as of Tuesday was 11,411, down from 11,580 last fall, a 1.5 percent drop. It was the first decline since 1994.

The university cited a decline in the number of returning students and first-time adult students. The university says the number of adult students typically decreases as the unemployment rate improves.

The university has 10,082 undergraduate students and 1,329 graduate students enrolled.
