Your Opinion: Cecil the Lion vs. Black Lives Matter

by Michael J Dillard Sr., Holts Summit | August 5, 2015 at 12:02 p.m. | Updated August 5, 2015 at 12:02 p.m.

Dear Editor:

It speaks volumes to the racial prejudice and indifference this nation shows to black lives that there is so much outrage over a lion that was killed in Zimbabwe than over police killing black people. There have been over 550 police-involved shootings this year and only four indictments; 57 of those were unarmed people and yet the outrage is about a dentist who payed $50,000 to shoot a lion!

What happened to humanity and all the Bible thumpers? "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Genesis 1: 26.

So where is the outrage over not just black life but human lives were taken but it's like people do not see black lives as human. Well over 100,000 signatures were on a petition to send the dentist back to Zimbabwe, but only 6,000 for investigation into police brutality.

This is how I feel. Our nation is going to hell in a hand basket when we care more about animals than humans!
