Black Democrats support GOP executive candidate

BERKELEY, Mo. (AP) - A coalition of black Democratic political leaders in St. Louis County is supporting the Republican candidate for county executive.

The Fannie Lou Hamer Coalition is made up of north St. Louis County Democratic mayors, city council members and other elected officials. The coalition on Wednesday announced support for Republican candidate Rick Stream.

Democratic candidate Steve Stenger will face Stream in the Nov. 4 election. Stenger defeated incumbent Charlie Dooley in the August primary.

County Council Chairwoman Hazel Erby cited several reasons for the decision.
