Your Opinion: Retiring educator thanks students

Dear Editor:

Each May the graduating seniors frequently reflect on the teachers that have made a difference in their lives. It isn't very often that teachers get to reflect on the students that have made a difference in their lives. Yet, as I reflect on my 34-year career with the Jefferson City Public Schools, I am so grateful for the students that made a difference in my life.

My life is better because of the relationships I developed with the students who are now wonderful adults that cross through my adult life.

Some students came to my class with stars in their eyes, some came because they needed a credit and some came because their parents thought they needed to enroll. The minute of their life journey that they shared with me taught me to be a better educator and provided me with many windows about who I am and who I want to be.

To those students who enrolled in my classes - thank you for including me in your journey.
