Former St. Elizabeth standout and current Missouri State pitcher Erin Struemph was named this week's Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Struemph, a freshman, has been lights-out in the circle for the Bears, putting together her most impressive performances of the season at the Blues City Classic. Struemph went 2-0 and collected her first career save while compiling a 0.45 ERA to earn a spot on the all-tournament first team.
Struemph leads the MVC in ERA (1.26), opponent's batting average (.208), and is tied atop the league with five wins. The 6-foot right-hander has struck out at least one batter in nine out of 10 innings and is the only pitcher in the MVC to throw two seven-inning compete-game shutouts.
