Blue Tigers halt 15-game skid by beating Lynx

The Lincoln softball team ended a 15-game losing streak with a 7-6 win against Lindenwood-Belleville in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

The Blue Tigers suffered a 7-6 loss in Game 1 despite outhitting the Lynx 5-2.

Shantae Duren was 3-for-6 and drove in three runs on the day to lead Lincoln, which is now 4-35 on the season. Kelsey Hight added two hits and two RBI, while Erin Sommerer was 1-for-2 with two RBI to help pace the Blue Tigers at the plate.

Jessica Cook took the loss in the opener, allowing four runs (three earned) on two hits and six walk, while striking out four in seven innings.

Lindenwood-Belleville (25-18-1) tallied nine hits in the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead against Lincoln in Game 2, but the Blue Tigers didn't stop battling.

Duren brought Lincoln within two with a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth and Sommerer followed with a two-run home run to tie the game at 4.

The Lynx got a run back in the top of the fifth, but Duren tied it up again with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame. Hight capped off the inning with a two-run single to give Lincoln a 7-5 lead and the Blue Tigers recorded a game-ending double play in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.

Alyssa Laudwig picked up the win in the nightcap after allowing six runs (four earned) on 13 hits, while striking out one in seven innings.

Sam Kircher was 3-for-6 on the day, while Kassidey Borland and Jessica Wolken both added two hits to help lead the offensive attack for Lincoln.

The Blue Tigers will play a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at Central Methodist. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
