EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Jefferson City Jays tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Edwardsville Invitational with a pair of wins Friday.
Jefferson City started out the day with a 5-0 win over St. Thomas More of Champaign, Ill.
In singles, Sam Johnson won 6-3, 6-0 and David Clausen won 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles winners for the Jays were David Steinmeyer and Isaac Roling (6-1, 6-1), Spencer Bone and Dalton Doyle (6-1, 6-1) and Rex Michitsch and Josh Morris (6-0, 6-2).
In the quarterfinals, Jefferson City dropped Normal, Ill., by a 6-3 score.
Singles winners for the Jays were Johnson (6-0, 6-1), Clausen (6-2, 6-2), Steinmeyer, 6-7, 6-2, 10-3 match tiebreaker) and Roling (6-2, 6-4). Bone lost 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, Johnson and Clausen won 6-2, 6-4 and Michitsch and Morris won 7-5, 7-5. Steinmeyer and Roling lost 6-1, 6-1; and Bone and Doyle lost 7-6, 3-6, 7-10 (match tiebreaker).
The Jays (9-4) will resume play in the tournament at 8:30 a.m. today.
