KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The former director of two Kansas City nonprofit groups has admitted bilking the charities out of more than $100,000, much of which went into slot machines at a Kansas casino.
The U.S. Attorney's office says 52-year-old Sean Patrick Taylor pleaded guilty Thursday to fraud and identity theft. The crimes occurred from April 2007 to May 2010 while Taylor was executive director of the Epilepsy Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri and a nonprofit called Westport Cooperative Services.
Taylor - who also went by the name J.R. Wayne Gourley - admitted stealing at least $100,000, but the government thinks the loss is more than $131,000.
Prosecutors say Taylor lost more than $72,000 playing slot machines at Prairie Band Casino in Mayetta, Kan., and received more than $5,200 in complementary benefits.
