Area farmers seek repairs on Missouri River levees

Grain farmers along the Missouri River are calling for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to speed up efforts to rebuild levees along the river.

Callaway County has a stake in the Corps' management of water levels along the river because the county's entire southern border fronts the Missouri River, much of it in fertile river bottom land.

Peggy Smart of Smart Brothers Farms in Tebbetts, Mo., says she realizes the Corps also has to consider the wishes of fish and wildlife advocates along the river.
