Mo. governor takes appointee rejections in stride

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon says he's not discouraged by the Senate's recent refusal to confirm several of his appointees.

Nixon's economic development director resigned last week after failing to win Senate confirmation. And the Republican-led Senate also blocked several other appointments made by the Democratic governor, including one to the University of Missouri Board of Curators.

Nixon said more than 90 percent of his appointments did win approved, which he said was a pretty good rate.

As a former state senator, Nixon said he respects the process by which senators can object to gubernatorial appointments.
