St. Louis firm gets $118K in unclaimed property

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis employer has received $118,000 in unclaimed property from the Missouri state treasurer's office.

The treasurer's office said in a release Thursday that the money came from 53 individual accounts belonging to the company, which was not identified. The accounts were made up of refunds, stocks, dividends, rebates and security deposits.

The treasurer's office also says it has returned more than $30 million so far this fiscal year, a 17 percent increase over the same time last year.

Most unclaimed property consists of cash from bank accounts, stocks, bonds and safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned.
