Mom gets 20 years in daughter's death

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A 31-year-old Kansas City area woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison in the death of her infant daughter.

A jury had convicted Sandra Stanton in March of second-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child and child abuse resulting in death. Stanton contended that one of her other two children must have injured 3-week-old Destiny Farnch after Stanton passed out from drinking too much.

The Kansas City Star reported that medical experts testified that it would be virtually impossible for a small child to have inflicted the kind of head injuries that the baby suffered.
