Hypothermia blamed for Springfield woman's death

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - A southwest Missouri medical examiner says January's mysterious death of a Springfield bank employee resulted from hypothermia.

The body of 51-year-old Yvonne Lowers was found the morning of Jan. 10 outside a storage company warehouse.

Lowers lived less than two miles from the site, but she was wearing few clothes when she was found despite extremely cold weather. Police initially considered the death suspicious.

The Greene County medical examiner concluded Tuesday that Lowers died of hypothermia. A toxicology report also said an elevated amount of alcohol in her system, combined with the effects of hypothermia, probably caused her to become disoriented.

Lowers worked at Guaranty Bank and was well-liked by her colleagues. Friends said she was a mother and grandmother who had been married for 35 years.
