Nixon asked to intervene in battle over local transportation funding

Holts Summit, Callaway County letter to governor details rift

After years of complaining Jefferson City has monopolized the process of getting federal road money processed by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the Holts Summit and Callaway County governments have asked Gov. Jay Nixon to step in.

Holts Summit City Attorney Kent Brown wrote in a five-page letter to Nixon dated May 2 that "Jefferson City ... has attempted to use (CAMPO) exclusively for its own benefit."

Noting that the governor's office must approve the formation of a metropolitan planning organization and the transportation plans that it proposes for funding, Holts Summit's letter asks Nixon to either nullify the arrangement between the current organization's member cities or seek to dissolve the organization entirely and re-form it with a new one.
