Illinois man drowns, 1 injured at Lake of Ozarks

A 21-year-old Illinois man is dead and his father is in critical condition after they were found at the bottom of a pool in a popular resort at the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Camden County Sheriff's Office says Ali Shaltaf, who could not swim, drowned Sunday when he went into the deep section of the pool at the Lodge of the Four Seasons. His 47-year-old father, Khalid Shaltaf, tried to rescue Ali, but also went under.

He was rescued and airlifted to Missouri Hospital in Columbia, where he is in critical condition. The men's hometown in Illinois was not immediately available.

The sheriff's office says both men were under water for about 18 minutes before Lodge staff and a guest tried to rescue them. No one else was in the pool area at the time.
