Infant wounded by family's pet ferret

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (AP) - Police in a western Missouri town say a 4-month-old boy has been severely wounded by his family's pet ferret.

The Grain Valley Police Department says in a news release that officers were called to the family's home about 2:30 a.m. Monday.

The department says the ferret had bitten the boy severely on both hands, removing several fingers.

Police and the Jackson County prosecutor's office are investigating. No other details were being released Monday.

Grain Valley is located about 20 miles east of Kansas City.
