Joplin businesswoman faces fraud charges

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A 38-year-old Joplin businesswoman faces federal forgery and fraud charges.

Peggy S. Newton, former co-owner of Evergreen & Amber in downtown Joplin, has been indicted in federal court on 21 counts of fraud and four counts of forgery.

The Joplin Globe reports that Newton is accused of using the now-defunct company's business account and the account of her former business partner for personal use from 2006 through January 2009.
