Committee passes up downtown parking garage changes

Discussions on two different parking-related requests yielded no recommended changes to downtown parking practices as committee members decided to keep the "status quo."

At the Public Works and Planning Committee meeting Friday, members discussed a request presented in October that asked the city to provide wider and designated spaces in the downtown parking garage. The request came from local business owner Brent Hemphill, who said he has often had trouble parking his vehicle in the space provided.

But a survey of those leasing spaces indicated few respondents wanted the proposed changes, which would increase rental rates.
