Smaller nuclear reactors eyed for Callaway

Ameren Missouri, which owns and operates the Callaway Nuclear Power Plant, is considering the option of building an array of smaller and less costly nuclear power reactors instead of one large 1,600-megawatt nuclear reactor.

The utility also wants the Missouri General Assembly to consider nuclear plant legislation in next month's special session to help Missouri attract a $250 million federal grant to build a small modular nuclear reactor.
