One person is dead and a suspect was taken into custody after a shooting Friday night at a local restaurant.

According to police reports, the incident occurred at 8:15 p.m. at the McDonald's restaurant located at 1918 Jefferson St.

When officers got on the scene, they found the victim - a 44-year-old Jefferson City female and McDonald's employee - had been shot once.

Officers began first aid before emergency personnel arrived.

Despite the large number of emergency vehicles on the scene, some people still drove into the restaurant parking lot and drive through, not knowing exactly what was going on.

A few minutes after officers arrived at the restaurant, 911 dispatchers put out a call about the suspect, a 47-year-old Jefferson City male. He was taken into custody in the area of U.S. 54 and Christy Drive, shortly after fleeing the shooting scene.

All those who were in the restaurant at the time were kept inside so detectives could talk with them.

About a dozen employees and customers were inside and could be seen crying, consoling one another and calling people on their cell phones.

The victim was taken to Capital Region Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Names of the victim and the suspect were not released pending notification of relatives, but police did confirm the two were known to one another.

Police planned to work throughout the night Friday and much of today interviewing the suspect and going through evidence collected at the scene.
