Lucille Fern Bascom

Lucille Fern Bascom, age 84, of Chamois, passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Linn Community Skilled Care. Lucille was born September 17, 1930, in Chamois, a daughter to the late Henry and Thelma (Wohlgemuth) Nichols. Lucille was a 1948 graduate of Chamois High School and worked as a secretary for the Langenberg Hat Factory as well as being a licensed insurance agent for the Chamois Mutual Insurance Company for a number of years. She also worked for the Osage County Assessor's office as a secretary before retiring. Lucille was united in marriage to Chester Bascom on May 24, 1969, in Chamois. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2005. Lucille was a member of Linn Family Worship Center and enjoyed reading, collecting sets of dishes and bird watching. Lucille is survived by: three sister-in-laws, Patsy Nichols of Chamois, Judy Nichols of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Pearl (Bascom) Weirich of Holts Summit; two nieces, Rebecca (Chris) Layton of Linn and Sarah Nichols of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two nephews, Glenn Nichols of Linn and David Nichols of Newnan, Ga.; four great-nieces, Ashley, Stephanie, Hannah and Elizabeth; two great-nephews, Trevor and Dustin and one great-great- nephew, Brandon. In addition to her parents and husband of 36 years, Lucille was preceded in death by one sister, Henrietta Hoffman; one brother, Delmar Nichols; and a nephew, Kevin Nichols. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Linn Family Worship Center. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Matt Lee officiating.
