Melba Jean Daly, 71, of Holts Summit, died Thursday, February 25, 2010, at St. Mary's Health Center. Melba was born April 4, 1938, in Fredericktown, the daughter of Tolman and Mildred "Millie" Tinker Penberthy, both deceased. She was a graduate of Flat River High School and Flat River Junior College. Melba was a real estate agent, insurance agent, emergency medical technician and small business owner. She was the founder of Jeff City Filing, Inc. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, a porcelain china painting club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her two Shih Tzu's, Muffy and Andy. On November 5, 1987, Melba was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Jim Allen Daly, who survives at their home. Other survivors include her children: Robert R. Souden and wife Laura of Jefferson City, Rand Souden and partner Robert Carey-Hogue of Kansas City and Topanga, California, James R. Daly and wife Khan of Millersburg, and Sherry Lynn Barnhouse and husband Stewart of Allen, Texas; and her beloved pets, Muffy and Andy. She was preceded in death by one brother, Darrell Penberthy. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Kespelher officiating. Entombment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Friends of the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 919 E. Miller, Jefferson City, MO, 65101.
