Howard L. Bruns, 91, of Jefferson City died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at his home. He was born May 12, 1919, in Jefferson City, a son of Joseph Henry and Emma Marie Schnieders Bruns. He was a graduate of St. Peter High School in Jefferson City. On January 25, 1958, Howard was united in marriage in Jefferson City to Marie Bruemmer, who survives at their home. Howard worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1941 to 1979, retiring as chief clerk. He then worked for Jefferson City Distributors as a salesman from 1979 until his retirement in 2004. He also co-owned and operated P and H Sundries in Jefferson City for many years. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter Men's Association, Ave Maria Rosary Group and a charter member of St. Peter Perpetual Adoration. He was also a member of the Dan C. Coppin Assembly Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks. Other survivors include: one daughter, Julie M. Bruns of St. Louis; one son, Mark Bruns and wife Marybeth of Wardsville; four grandchildren, Wesley Bernskoetter and wife Stephanie, Kyle Bruns and fianceÈ Rachel, Joey Bruns, Lisa Bruns; one great-granddaughter, Alana Bernskoetter; one brother, Roderick Bruns and wife Trudy of Jefferson City; a brother-in-law, Clarence Bruemmer and wife Lorraine of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Alice Bruns and Irene Heidrich. Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a rosary service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 2, 2010, at St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Basil Euro officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, the Helias Foundation or the Carmelite Monastery.
