Joyce Rosalee (Stevenson) Corman, RN, age 88, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Oak Tree Villas, Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born on November 2, 1930 in Cuba, Illinois to parents John Henry and Gertrude (Pierce) Stevenson. She was united in marriage April 19, 1952 in Canton, Illinois to Harold Corman who preceded her in death on May 7, 2004. She graduated from Fairview Community High School, Fairview, Illinois in 1948 and from Graham Hospital School of Nursing, Canton, Illinois in 1952, where she started her nursing career as a Registered Nurse. She worked in the emergency room at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois for many years before moving to Missouri in 1969. In 1970, she joined the Memorial Community Hospital health care team as a staff RN. She became the Director of Nursing in 1976 and was later named the Vice President of Nursing, serving in these roles for 14 years, mentoring and supervising hundreds of nurses and patient care staff. In 1990, she was named to the newly-created position of Patient Care Representative, where she served the patients and families of Capital Region with kindness, grace, a listening ear, and a smile that touched hearts more than words could describe. She retired from Capital Region Medical Center as Patient Care Representative in December 2015, following 46 years of service. Joyce was grateful for a number of close friendships she made in her years working at Memorial Community Hospital and Capital Region Medical Center. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Jefferson City, Missouri. She was a former member of the Show-Me Bootscooters, where she enjoyed learning the latest line dances. She and her husband, Harold, loved spending quality time with family and friends. Joyce and Harold built their vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks, where she enjoyed spending vacations and weekends swimming, water skiing, boating, fishing, taking long walks in the woods, and entertaining family and friends. Those who knew Joyce will always remember her beautiful smile! She is survived by her daughter, Rita Fester, husband Dan of Jefferson City, Missouri; granddaughter, Heather Fester of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Janet Shirts, husband Norman of Jefferson City, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother, Johnnie Paul Stevenson. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Missouri with her funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Monsignor Robert Kurwicki officiating. Graveside services will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
