Dwight W. Warren

Mr. Dwight W. Warren, age 75 years, of Holts Summit, Mo., died Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Oak Tree Villas Nursing Center. Dwight was born on August 31, 1943 in Rural Ozark County, Mo., the son of Oscar E. and Agnes A. White Warren. He was married March 4, 1965 in Tokyo, Japan to Fumiko Sato. Dwight was a 1961 graduate of West Plains High School in West Plains, Mo. After graduation he decided to pursue journalism so he enlisted in the United States Navy and was soon traveling to Japan on military orders. It was during his time spent in Japan that he met his wife, Fumi. Following his active military service, Dwight remained dedicated to his country, serving in the naval reserves for the next twenty-two and a half years before being honorably discharged as a Master Chief Petty Officer in 1968. In addition to his military service, he was employed by the News Tribune in Jefferson City, Mo. as a reporter, manager and editor at various stages of his 30-year career there. He also served as a Deputy with the Callaway County Sheriff's Department and was a Police Officer with the Holts Summit Police Department. Dwight was a man of strong faith. He traveled the state serving as interim pastor in a number of churches and his background in journalism allowed him to prepare captivating messages and share the gospel with ease. He loved church music and was known to sing praises and was a talented bass guitarist. Dwight was a member of the Fulton Assembly of God Church. Though his true passion was journalism, Dwight enjoyed taking a scenic bicycle ride on the Katy Trail, riding motorcycles alongside friends, traveling to Branson, Mo. with his family, and browsing on the computer. He was also very smart - friends and family often took advantage of this trait and called on him during tax season. Dwight loved the nostalgia of taking trips back home to West Plains, Mo. and was never afraid of a little hard work. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Fumiko Sato Warren of Holts Summit, Mo.; his son, Steven Warren II of Holts Summit, Mo.; four siblings, Steve Warren and his wife Mary of West Plains, Mo., Katherine Gilbert of Linn, Mo., Beverly Ruth Kaullen and her husband Charley of New Franklin, Mo. and Dola Peak of Marianna, Fla.; his step-mother, Faye Warren of West Plains, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly and prayed for daily. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one sister, Janice Collins; three brothers-in-law, David Gilbert, Charles Collins, and Tony Rutledge; and one nephew, Keith Collins. Visitation will be at the Fulton First Assembly of God Church from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 16, 2019. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Fulton First Assembly of God Church in Fulton, Mo. with the Reverend Michael Haldeman officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Summit Memorial Park Cemetery in Holts Summit, Mo.
