Alyssa Denise Hency, age 19, a resident of Jefferson City, formerly of Charleston, died Sunday, December 30, 2018, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. She was born January 10, 1999, in Cape Girardeau and is survived by her mother, Denise K. Hency-Kettles of Jefferson City and her father, Brett Hency, who resides in Pennsylvania. Following her graduation from Charleston High School, she was awarded a full scholarship to attend Stephens College in Columbia as a member of the Stephens Scholars Program. She would have received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology as a Pre-Vet major from Stephens College in 2019. With plans to enter the School of Veterinary Medicine at Missouri University/Columbia, she had served an internship through the Stephens Scholars program working with horses at a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. race track. Included in her many involvements on campus and in the community was working for many charities and serving as an officer of the Kappa Delta Sorority in charge of recruitment events. She also had worked at the Sonic and Southwest Animal Hospital in Jefferson City. Alyssia loved her dog, Ana Mae, and was thought of as a most energetic, amazing, full of life, strong willed and driven young woman. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepfather, Allan Kettles of Sikeston; two brothers, Jacob Hency and Jeremy Hency, both of Jefferson City; two sisters, Jenni Hency of Cape Girardeau and Brittany McCormack of Afton, Wyo.; one stepsister, Staci Segura of Sikeston; one stepbrother, Jorden Kettles of Oklahoma, Okla.; also four nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019, at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where Funeral Services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019, in the Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City. Interment will follow under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home.
