Mary Jane Steinmetz, 67, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019 following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 14, 1951, in Jefferson City, a daughter of, the late Harold and Mildred P. (Bloomer) Steinmetz. She was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson City High School and began working for Memorial Community Hospital her senior year. She worked for Memorial Community Hospital for over 20, continuing on when they were purchased by Capital Region Medical Center and retired in 2017, after a combined 48 years. She also worked part-time for Cole County Residential's Parkway Houser, where she assisted in caring for challenged adults. Mary was a kind and loving soul that helped anyone who needed a hand without ever asking for anything in return. She was devoted to family, having cared for both her grandmother and mother at the end of their lives and numerous friends. She was a life-long Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She enjoyed traveling, often taking her nieces, nephews and close friends from coast to coast. She loved music, stuffed monkeys, and kept everything ever given to her. She is survived by her brother: Jacob Steinmetz (Judy) of Jefferson City; sisters: Barbara Ashurst (Bob) of Republic and Joyce Schmidt of Kansas City; brother-in-law: Gary Thomas of Taos; along with many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her sister: Carol Sue Thomas; brother-in-law: Tommy Schmidt and her lifelong best friend: Miranda Hake. Memorial services will be held at Southridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City on August 24, 2019, officiated by Pastor Ron Zamkus. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with Memorial Service to begin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mary are suggested to Hospice Compassus of Jefferson City.
