Nelson Eugene Kohler, 86, of Tipton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Tipton Oak Manor. He was one of 6 children born to O.H. and Mary Catherine Kohler in Ethel, Missouri. Nelson was a graduate of the Carrollton High School, Carrollton, Missouri and attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Missouri. He enlisted in the US Army and then married Marion Elizabeth Frasher of Jefferson City, Missouri in 1953. Nelson became a teacher and football coach and moved to Tipton in 1965, becoming the school principal three years later. In 1971, the family moved to Versailles where he served as principal for nine years. Nelson returned to Tipton as principal and serving from 1981, until retirement in 1994. After retirement, he continued his community involvement by serving on the Tipton School Board for 10 years. Nelson and Marion enjoyed fishing and playing golf together. He was an avid sports fan, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and Missouri Tigers on television or listening to them on the radio, often simultaneously. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; sister, Ann Kohler; brothers, George and Leo Kohler; and son-in-law, Jack Walewski. He is survived by sons, Kevin C. Kohler and his wife Sue of Jefferson City, Bradley C. Kohler and his wife Robin of St. Charles, Kelly C. Kohler and his wife Jennifer of Tipton; daughter, Deborah C. Walewski of Marshfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Glenn Kohler and his wife Vicki of Carrollton and Gary Kohler and his wife Leslie of Glendale, Arizona. Funeral services for Nelson Kohler will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton with burial immediately following at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City with full military honors. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2018, at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Easter Seals Autism Awareness.
