Richard H. Overmann, age 78, of Chesterfield, was baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Richard (Rich) grew up in Jennings, Mo. He first moved to Jefferson City in 1953 to attend La Salette Seminary High School. This experience helped forge the foundation for his life of faith. When he was 20 years old, he moved to Rome, Italy to attend Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, where he resided for six years. While in Italy, Richard wore many hats. He was a student, basketball coach and mentor. Richard worked for the State of Missouri for 35 years, for the Departments of Social Services and Mental Health, and retired in 2006. He worked to improve the lives of the most vulnerable, advocating for their safety. In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with family. Richard was someone that loved to meet people and enjoy life, laughing often and seeing the positive side of everything. His legacy will live on with his beautiful family and the words of wisdom that he shared. One of the last bits of advice he shared with his children was to always remain positive. He was the beloved husband of Christine Overmann; dear father and father-in-law of Thomas Overmann, Regina (Carl) Campbell, Matthew (Ellen), Nicholas, and Marie Overmann; dear grandfather of Hannah Henderson, Tommy Jr. and Sydney Overmann, Arthur, Abigail and Addelyn Campbell, Lily, Emma, Graham and William Overmann, and Henry Overmann; dear great-grandfather of Finn Villegas; dear brother of Rosemarie (Stu) Merchant, Carolyn (Ches) Southard, the late Fr. William Overmann and the late Mark (Barb) Overmann; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
