Omega Lena Jane Barry, 93, of California, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Moniteau Care Center in California, Missouri. She was born on October 27, 1924, to Ralph Edward and Laura Rose (Oesterly) Wood of California, Missouri. Her parents and her sister, Ruby (Wood) Cox, preceded her in death. Omega was a graduate of California High School. On October 17, 1945 in Kansas, she was united in marriage to Robert Newton "Newt" Barry. Robert and Omega were married for 73 years. Her beloved husband, Robert Barry, preceded her in death on January 11, 2018. Robert and Omega lived at their farm near Enon, Missouri, until 2008. In the fall, they moved to California, Missouri. Omega was a homemaker, a bookkeeper and co-owner of Barry Construction, Inc. for over 50 years. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Society of Daughters of the American Colonist and the Mersey Lucas Wood Chapter. Omega was also a master of many talents. In the summertime, she always had a big garden and enjoyed working in it and preserving her garden produce by canning and freezing. Often, her grandkids were seen helping grandma in the garden. Omega loved chickens and always had fresh eggs on hand. When one of her grandsons was there, he was always willing to help grandma gather the eggs. If she ever had a minute to spare, you would find her fishing at the pond, which was one of her favorite pastimes. In her early years, she played the piano at Rock Enon Baptist Church and taught Sunday School. Later when her children were married and gone, you could walk in the house and hear her playing the piano. She carried the tradition of teaching Sunday School for over 60 years. Omega would spend hours creating visuals for her Sunday School students to help bring the story to life. Omega was also adventurous and fun loving. She loved taking her younger grandchildren to play mini golf. She also enjoyed dressing up at Halloween and trick-or-treating with her grandchildren. Omega was even game for parasailing at the age of 75 with her grandson as captain; riding a jet ski, owned by one of her grandsons; and riding a horse owned by one of her sons. She always enjoyed family gatherings and was so proud of the family she and Robert created. If someone got cards or a board game out, you would always find her ready to play. Omega always had a puzzle out working on it and when the family came by she always had assistance with it. Surviving children include two sons: Wayne Barry (Beverly) of Barnett, Mo. and Clyde Barry (Peggy) of California, Mo; two daughters, Carol Newton (Bobby) of Eldon, Mo. and Lois Haile (Gene) of California, Mo; 11 grandchildren, Chad Barry (Andy), Shawn Barry (Jennifer), Scott Barry (Allison), Matt Barry, Josh Barry, Chris Newton (Mavis), Jason Newton, Neil Newton (Jodi), Crystal (Haile) Cook (David), Tony Haile (Christen) and Jennifer (Haile) Hopper (Kelly); and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Main Street Baptist Church of California, Missouri, with the funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Enloe Cemetery.
