Ethel Mae (Brink) Brade, 90, of St. Martins, went peacefully home to the Lord on Sunday, June 24, 2018. She was born on April 22, 1928, in Winona, Minn. to Ernest and Verna Brink. She attended St. Martin's Lutheran School and Church in Winona. She made her Confirmation on April 6, 1941, and went on to graduate 10th grade. She then began working in the mill industry of Winona as well as restaurant work. Raised with strong work ethics she would continue to work for over 50 years, often working 2-3 jobs at a time, with never a complaint. At the age of 52, she received her GED and went on to retire from the MO Department of Health. She encouraged and helped other people study to also receive their GEDs. "Grandma Brade" was known for her contagious smile and laugh. No one left her home without a hug (the grandkids referred to it as a bear hug). She would give endless hours of attention to any of her family at any time. She could create or repair anything with a sewing machine and did so well into retirement. Her coffee cakes, bread pudding, and pumpkin pies will be missed. Ethel is survived by four daughters: Sheryll (George) Larson, Jean (Jeff Percy) Hovland, Marie (Chuck Loshek) Rackow, and Bonnie (Jeff) Cavness; and two sons: Bill (Billie) Brade, and Jack (Robin) Brade were blessed to be raised by a mom that provided so much love. Her family would grow to include 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; three brothers: Bob Brink, Eugene Brink, Rich Brink; and one sister: Dolly (Roman) Baker. A private family celebration of her life will be held to help us all to never forget how great this lady truly was. She walked the walk, always with a smile and encouragement being an example to all that knew her. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109. (573) 636-3838. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.millardfamilychapels.com
