Robert Ruben Oelrichs

Robert Ruben Oelrichs, 93, of Sedalia, died Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Fair View Nursing Home. He was born on April 11, 1925, at Lake Creek, Missouri, a son of Grover Fred and Anna Margaretha (Von Holten) Oelrichs. He was raised in the Lake Creek area, attended Bunker Hill School, and was a 4H member. In 1948, he worked on a farm in Alma. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Lake Creek on April 26, 1925, and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cole Camp on September 30, 1938. On July 10, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp by Rev. Henry Gerike, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Bockelman, who preceded him in death on August 15, 2004. In 1951, Robert moved to Grandview to work for Bendix and moved back to the family farm in 1955, where he was a dairy farmer. He also worked for Midwest Breeders. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sedalia and served as an elder. He spent his spare time woodworking and making cedar chests, weaving baskets, fishing, and going to auctions. He enjoyed family history, singing in German, and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play. He was an avid fan of baseball, having grown up listening to the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals on the radio. He is survived by: his daughters, Brenda Johns and her husband Larry and Donna Katzing and her husband Greg, all of Sedalia; his son, David Oelrichs and his wife Shirley of Jefferson City; his sisters, Elvera Zimmerschied and her husband Don of Mora and Florine Hobein, of Cole Camp; his brother, Roland Oelrichs and his wife Fern of Mora; his sister-in-law, Irene Oelrichs of Sedalia; nine grandchildren, Angela Boessen, Bethany Miller, Carrie Oelrichs, Jesse Johns, Katie Johns, Lianna Smith, Brette Johns, Brandon Katzing, and Brent Katzing; and seven great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Quinton, Hailey, Andrew, Sara, Hunter, and Tekken. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Anna Oelrichs; his sons, Michael Oelrichs and Gary Oelrichs; his brother, Allen Oelrichs; and his brothers-in-law, Melvin Schnakenberg and Hilmer Hobein. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Sedalia, with Pastor Jeremy Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Cole Camp. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018, at the church with a visitation to follow. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or St. Paul's Lutheran School in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp. Pallbearers will be David Oelrichs, Larry Johns, Greg Katzing, Brandon Katzing, Brent Katzing, Nathan Miller, Shane Boessen, and Jessie Johns.
