Edward Mims

Edward "Allen" Mims, 66, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on October 6, 1951 at Fort Benning Georgia, a son of John Leroy Mims and Juanita Talley Mims. He was married to Linda "Kathleen" Mims on February 5, 2002. Allen retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Army National Guard with over 26 years of service. His last assignment was serving as a Chief Instructor at the 5th Ordinance Training Battalion (RTSM) with the Missouri Army National Guard. Allen loved target shooting, weaponry, boating, motorcycles and tinkering on a variety of automobiles. In his younger years, Allen was a body builder and physical fitness continued to be important to him throughout his life. He had a soft spot for animals and very much enjoyed the pets that were part of his family. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion Post 1000. He is survived by his wife: Linda "Kathleen" Mims of Jefferson City, two sons: Allen Blue Jr. (Lara) of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and Cody Mims (fiancée Amity) of Columbia; one daughter: Angela Maness of Pflugerville, Texas; four grandchildren: Katelyn, Abbey, Jaiden and Kasey; three brothers: Wayne (Elena) Mims, Thomas (Helen) Mims from Aberdeen, North Carolina and James Mims of Colorado. Allen was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: John Leroy "Skeet" Mims. Friends will be received from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral with full military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Missouri.
