Shelley Gabert, 55, of California, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Jefferson City, Missouri. She was born on September 2, 1961, in Jefferson City, Missouri. Shelley attended Stover High School until her senior year when she transferred to California High School graduating in 1979. She attended University of Missouri School of Journalism graduating in 1983. She worked in New York, St. Louis and Los Angeles before returning to California, Mo. to be closer to her family, especially her niece and nephew. She was an avid animal lover and her two cats Spike and Little Cat were part of her family. She had a strong passion for the film industry, writing for various film trade publications. Most recently she was editor of HER Magazine and a contributing writer to the Jefferson City News Tribune. Shelley is survived by her mother and step-father Judy and Nelson Bochard; a sister, Lisa Porter; a brother, Todd Gabert, all of California, Mo.; one niece, Taylor Porter of St. Louis, Mo.; a nephew, Zachary Gabert of California, Mo.; several aunts, uncles; cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Gabert in 1990. The family will receive friends at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service on Monday, January 16, 2017, from 4 -7 p.m. A special eulogy will be shared by Shelley's close friend Beth Dale at 6:30 p.m. Private family interment will be at Masonic Cemetery at a later date.
