Andrew W. Mitchem

Andrew "Andy" W. Mitchem, 68, of Chamois, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born December 7, 1948, In Chamois, the son of the late Archie and Laura Mae (Branson) Mitchem. On June 7, 1969, he was united in marriage to Diane Shockley. She survives at the home. Andy attended Chamois High School. He was previously employed with MFA Chamois and currently employed with Capital Quarries. Andy enjoyed cutting wood and working with his brothers. Most of all he loved all his grandkids who he treated as if they were his children. Along with his wife Diane he is survived by his children: Carlene Mitchem (Brian Duncan) of Chamois, Deeanna Helming (Chad) of Morrison, Becky Schaperclaus (Kurtis) of Chamois and Nicole Mitchem (Scott Owens) of Chamois; five brothers: Raymond Mitchem (Joan) of Chamois, Ed Mitchem (Carmen) of Chamois, Robert Mitchem (Shirley) of Chamois, Delmar Mitchem (Rhonda) of Chamois, Homer Mitchem of Linn; one sister: Elsie Weed (John) of Chamois; one sister-in-law: Mary Jane Mitchem; 10 grandchildren: Drew Owens, Ashley Strope (Eddie Honey), Scotte Owens (Ryan Hutchison), Dalton Skabialka (Violet Tracy), Cody Helmig, Laura Schaperclaus (Jackson Logan), Richard Schaperlaus, Skylar Kever, Ariel Owens and Tyler and Emily Durre; four great grandchildren: Keegan, Riley, Cyrus, Emmilene and two on the way. He was preceded in death by one brother: John Mitchem and two nephews: Ryan Mitchem and Mark Mitchem. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Chamois Lions Hall. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Chamois Church of Christ with Rev. Don King officiating. Interment will follow in the South Cemetery.
