Matilda Mary Schwartze (Tillie), 89, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016, surrounded by her family at Capital Region Medical Center. Matilda was born August 28, 1927, in Meta, the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Bax) Libbert. Matilda was married to Theodore Antone "Ted" Schwartze on October 16, 1948, in Meta at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Prior to marriage, Matilda worked at the Tweedie Shoe Factory in Jefferson City, Mo. She and her husband Ted operated a dairy farm for approximately 35 years. She was a member of the Argyle VFW Post 8045 Ladies Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus Council 2047 Ladies Auxiliary, and a devout parishioner of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Argyle. Matilda was well known in the community for her quilting talents as she enjoyed quilting for St. Aloysius parish, her children and grandchildren. She was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She was famous for her blackberry cobbler, caramel popcorn, and cinnamon rolls. Surviving family include her children, Eileen (Fred) Luebbert, Koelztown; Alice (Wayne) James, Vienna; Donnie (Shanda) Schwartze, Argyle; Betty (Don) Yanskey, St. Martins; Norma (Jim) Malone, Ballwin; Darryl (Paula) Schwartze, and Gerald (Darla) Schwartze, all of Argyle; son-in-law, Rick Stratman, Argyle; two brothers, Jerome (Arlene) Libbert, Lake of the Ozarks, and Lawrence (Bert) Libbert, St. Louis; one sister, Mary Wieberg, Rich Fountain; sister-in-law, Lucille Libbert, Laurie; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and many relatives and friends. Matilda was preceded in death by her husband on February 8, 2010; her father on May 13, 1985; her mother on January 2, 1990; her daughter, Louise C. Stratman, on May 2, 2007; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ralph and Loretta Libbert and Art Libbert; one sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Bill Wieberg; and a brother-in-law, Norbert Wieberg. Visitation will be held for Matilda from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016, and from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. all in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 1 Church Lane, Argyle. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Matilda at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016, in the St. Aloysius Church, Argyle, with the Rev. James Finder as the celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery, Argyle, under the direction of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, Vienna. Masses or memorial contributions are suggested per the wishes of the family with envelopes available at the St. Aloysius Church, Argyle, or in care of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Home, P.O. Box 250, Vienna, MO 65582.
