Jane E. Meyer

Mrs. Jane E. Meyer, age 97, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Monday, November 28, 2016, at SSM Health St. Marys Hospital. She was born on May 28, 1919, in Tulsa, Okla. to William and Elsie Wippo Espy. She married Roy C. Meyer on December 21, 1943, in Columbia, Mo. He preceded her in death in 2004. Jane was a 1937 graduate of Beaumont High School and received her teaching degree from the University of Missouri in 1941. She later earned a Master's degree in geology from the University, pursuing her life-long interest in rocks and minerals. She taught science in the Jefferson City Public School District for a number of years. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Stringtown, Mo., Heisinger Bluffs Auxiliary, Rock Club, Jefferson Club UMC, the National Audubon Society, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and a life member of the Republican Party. Jane was an avid rock collector and traveled with her family to various locations in the United States known for rocks and minerals. An animal lover, she had a particular fondness for dachshunds. Other interests included bird watching, Cardinal baseball, Mizzou football and spending time with family. Survivors include: two sons, William (Barbara) Meyer of Russellville, Mo. and James (Susan) Meyer of Wentzville, Mo.; five grandchildren, Ashley Meyer, Bradley Meyer, David (Stephanie) Meyer, Steven (Danielle) Meyer and Laura Meyer; and seven great-grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held at St. Peters Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo. A memorial service at Heisinger Bluffs is planned for a later date.
