Samuel D. Cliburn

Samuel D. Cliburn, age 68, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at University Hospital in Columbia, due to injuries sustained in a fall at his home. He was born August 27, 1944, in Jefferson City, a son of Lloyd and Ruth Ellen Brandon Cliburn. He married Caroline Barrett Clark in 1977, and she preceded him in death in 2007. Sam married Judy Ann Vaught Romine in October of 2008, and she survives at their home. He was a 1962 graduate of Russellville High School. In 1970, Sam went to work on the Alaskan Pipeline, staying on for one year. He retired from Von Hoffman Press in Jefferson City after many years of employment. Sam was an avid and accomplished hunter. His specialty was archery, shooting his first bow at the age of 6. His passion for the sport led him to establish his own business, The Archery Shack in St. Martins, which he owned and operated for more than 30 years. His love of archery also led him to invent the PSE Arrowrest. He was a Sprint Car driver in the early 1960's, doing volunteer labor during the building of Capital Speedway in Holts Summit. He attended the Solid Rock Church in Jefferson City. Sam enjoyed his family and spending time on the family farm near Centertown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three stepchildren, Steve Romine Jr. and fiancée Joy Busch of Tipton; Bradley Romine and Tanya Tucker, both of Jefferson City; three brothers, Jerry Cliburn of Russellville; Leon Cliburn and Oliver Cliburn, both of Centertown; one sister, Alice Kliethermes of Centertown; a sisterin-law, Judy Cliburn of Centertown; his mother-in-law, Frances Kieselbach of Jefferson City; an aunt and uncle Naomi McIntyre and Kenneth Bowland, both of Mound City; three grandchildren, Kayla Romine, Steve Romine III and McKinzee Tucker; seven nieces and nephews, Chris, Jay, Eden, Matthew, Brianna, Emma, Brandon, Mason and Lane; along with other relatives and many friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Steven and Alan Cliburn. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville with Pastor Joe Skiles officiating. Interment will be in the Enloe Cemetery west of Russellville. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the Scrivner-Morrow Funeral Home in Russellville.
