Mr. Robert S. Hitt, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Bob was born October 12, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of Jacob S. and Roxanna Noland Hitt. He was married on April 25, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Beulah C. Chapman. A resident of the Jefferson City area since September 1990, Bob attended school in Cape Girardeau. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He arrived at Normandy on D-Day plus two and served in the battles of North France, Rhineland, and the Battle of the Bulge with which he was awarded four bronze stars. He was employed as a plumber in the construction industry in the St. Louis area for many years. Bob was a member of the Labors Union, Local 42 in St. Louis. He enjoyed playing golf and tinkering in his workshop. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include: his wife of 71 years, Beulah Hitt; one brother, Billy Gene Hitt and his wife Carolyn of St. Louis, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Reverend Glenn Hitt, Donald Hitt, and Jake Hitt; and one sister, Allene Dare. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Lowell Perkins officiating. Graveside services and entombment with military honors will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Assn. or the charity of their choice.
