Anna Jean Hendershot-Mayor

Anna Jean (A.J.) Hendershot-Mayor, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2013, in LifeCare of Waynesville. She was born May 31, 1927, in Waynesville, MO., daughter of the late Newman and Anna Page Helton of Waynesville, Mo. She attended Waynesville High School and was employed as a Federal Technician with the Missouri Army National Guard for 42 years until her retirement in 1985, beginning in Fort Leonard Wood and later transferring to Jefferson City in the early 1950's. She was extremely proud of the Red, White and Blue and loved being part of the National Guard Family, continuing to reminisce on her life stories with the military up to her last days of life. She was united in marriage on June 1, 1953, to Willard C. "Buck" Hendershot, a former World War II veteran, who later joined and retired from the Missouri National Guard. He preceded her in death in 1989. During those early years she and "Buck" enjoyed fishing, and traveling, especially to Hawaii seven times. She later married George A. Mayor Jr. on April 20, 2002, at Hickory Hill Baptist Church in St. Robert. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Mo. She and George shared two homes traveling between Waynesville and Jefferson City on a regular basis. She is survived by her husband George, of the home; several nieces and nephews, along with many friends, both military and civilian, who were like family and will truly miss her stories and Hallmark cards. Besides her parents and first husband, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Breeden, Jeretta Laughlin, and Betty Jerabek. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Church of God of St. Robert. Funeral services will follow at noon officiated by her nephew, Richard Breeden. Graveside services and burial will also be Wednesday, at 3:00 p.m., in the Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
