Thelma Verneil Schroff Brandhorst

Mrs. Thelma Verneil Schroff Brandhorst, age 96 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at St. Joseph Bluffs Nursing Center. Thelma was born March 7, 1917, in Big Spring, Mo., the daughter of Charles F. and Louise M. Bauer Schroff. She was married on June 23, 1940, in Big Spring, Mo. to Herbert H. Brandhorst who preceded her in death on January 9, 2003. They enjoyed a honeymoon road trip to Niagara Falls at the total cost of only one hundred dollars. She graduated from Hermann High School, Hermann, Mo. and attended Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in Cape Girardeau, Mo. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1951, Thelma was employed as the Office Manager with Brandhorst Battery Company for many years. Thelma was a member of the First United Methodist Church, including the United Methodist Women, Rachel Circle, and the Harmony Sunday School Class. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, and a P.T.O. leader for many years. Thelma was also a member of the Westenders Extension Club. She loved sewing and various crafts including decoupage, scherenschnitte, and other art work. She also enjoyed traveling and playing pinochle. Survivors include: three sons, Lynn Brandhorst and his wife Pam of Los Gatos, California, Larry Brandhorst and his wife DiAnne of Jefferson City, Mo., and Marc Brandhorst and his wife Dianna of Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Marcia Balkin, Dustin Brandhorst, Jeff Brandhorst, Wesley Brandhorst, D'Arcy Hemsworth, Brad Toebben, Chris Toebben, and Jessica Kirsch; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Gordon Schroff and his wife Esther. Visitation will be at the First United Methodist Church from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverend Keith Vessell officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the charity of their choice.
