Arthur F. Kolkmeier

Mr. Arthur F. "Art" Kolkmeier, age 80 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Monday, January 14, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. Art was born on May 14, 1932, in St. Charles, Mo., a son of August and Bertha Lindenmann Kolkmeier. He was married on January 22, 1956, in St. Charles, Mo., to Sylvia J. Nissing. A past resident of St. Charles, Mo., Art graduated from Francis Howell High School in St. Charles, Mo. After high school he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed in the Planning Dept. of McDonnell Douglas for 38 years, retiring in 1990. After retirement, Art and Sylvia moved to Jefferson City to be with their family. He was a member of Central United Church of Christ in Jefferson City, St. John United Church of Christ and Friedens United Church of Christ, both in St. Charles, Mo. He was actively involved as a charter member and past-president of the Lions Club of Harvester in St. Charles, Mo. and even served as Governor of the region. When he moved to Jefferson City he became a member of the Host Lions Club. Art never met a stranger and enjoyed sharing his interests and knowledge of history with others as a tour guide at the Missouri State Capitol Building. He also had a passion for photography. Survivors include: his wife, Sylvia Kolkmeier; two daughters, Karen Gelber and her husband Chuck of Jefferson City, Mo., Jean Nieweg and her husband Alan of Denison, Iowa; one son, Glen Kolkmeier of St. Charles, Mo.; one sister, Ethel Nolle and her husband John of Hermann, Mo.; one brother, Harlan Kolkmeier and his wife Darlene of Washington, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Wehmeyer, Jill Gelber, Michael Nieweg, Travis Nieweg, and Kevin Gelber; and one great-grandson, Brayden Wehmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Omar Kolkmeier; and two sisters, Grace Thompson and Louise Sommer. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, January 17, 2013. An additional visitation will be held at Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles, Mo. from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2013. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2013, at Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, Mo. with the Reverend Coletta Eichenberger officiating. Graveside services and interment with full military honors will be held at St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery in St. Charles, Mo. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the National Kidney Foundation, the Host Lions Club of Jefferson City, Mo. or the Lions Club of Harvester of St. Charles, Mo.
