Merle L. Gieck

Mr. Merle L. Gieck, age 78 years, of Eldon, Mo., a former Jefferson City resident, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. Merle was born March 1, 1934, in Jefferson City, Mo., the son of Jose L. and Elnathan "Alta" Maples Gieck. He was married on March 3, 1980, to Lucynthia B. Kerr who preceded him in death on June 28, 2012. A life-long resident of the Jefferson City area, Merle attended Jefferson City High School. He was employed as a custodian with Jefferson City Public Schools for 34 years prior to his retirement on December 1, 1994. He attended the East Side Assembly of God in Eldon, Mo. Survivors include: one son, James L. Gieck of Holts Summit, Mo; one daughter, Jill Nichols and her husband Dean of Taos, Mo.; one brother, James Gieck and his wife Dorothy of Jefferson City, Mo.; one step-son, Marvin Gregory and his wife Linda of Eldon, Mo.; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Louis Gieck Sr. and Amil Gieck. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Buena Huffman officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery.
