Jackie Lewis Chism, 60, of Jefferson City, died Friday, September 21, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born in Tipton, Missouri to the late LeRoy D. Chism Sr. and Gladys E. Miller Chism on August 31, 1952. Jackie Lewis Chism was a graduate of Central High School Class of 1970, in Kansas City, Missouri. He had been employed at numerous places including the Hereford House restaurant, the State Building and finally retiring from the Federal Building all in Kansas City, Missouri. Jackie enjoyed the martial arts and had received many belts including a Black belt in Taekwondo. Jackie had an active lifestyle and later relocated to Jefferson City, Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking. If he could catch it, he knew how to cook it. He especially loved to barbeque and would offer a meal to anyone he met. He loved his garden, which produced some of the best tomatoes that he loved to share with others. Jackie led his life to the fullest, never meeting a stranger but always willing to help anyone he met. Jackie had a heart of gold! He loved all kinds of music and was well known in Jefferson City for his talent of singing and dancing. He loved to talk and tell all kinds of stories about his life's adventures. Jackie was a Baptist and was baptized at an early age by his uncle, the late Rev. Ogden Lacey from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bunceton, Missouri. He had attended church services in Kansas City, Tipton, Bunceton and Jefferson City. On September 21, 2012, the Lord called Jackie Lewis Chism home to be with his heavenly family. He leaves to cherish his precious memories: sisters, Mary Margaret Woods (Courtney), Nancy Elizabeth Gilmore (Criss), Loretta Elizabeth Chism; brother, Edward Eugene Chism (Justine); a special significant other, Ms. Tina Marie Jeffery; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and especially all of the people that loved him in Jefferson City, Missouri. Jackie Lewis Chism will truly be missed, gone but never forgotten. His brothers, Butch Chism, LeRoy D. Chism Jr.; niece, Eugena Chism and nephew, Orlando Sloan III all preceded him in death. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Cornell C. Sudduth Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 W. Main St., (573) 636-3838.
