Major A.F. "Slim" Closson, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, October 27, 2012, at St. Joseph's Bluff. Slim was born February 9, 1919, in Keytesville, Mo., the son of James R. and Mary L. Knouse Closson. He was married on May 1, 1948, in Independence, Mo. to Doris M. Birgee who preceded him in death on October 9, 2010. He served in the United States Army during World War II in North Africa and Europe for which he was awarded two bronze stars. Slim was employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 34 years retiring as a Major in 1979. Survivors include: three daughters, Karen Kay Closson of Jefferson City, Mo., Shirley Mueller of Eureka, Mo., and Betty Morrison and her husband Travis of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, James E. Closson and his wife Ginny of Marshall, Mo.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Robert John Closson; six brothers and eight sisters. Private graveside services and entombment will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the MASTERS, 5287 Highway 67 North, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901.
