Marilyn Regina Bruns

Marilyn Regina Bruns, 74, of Jefferson City, died Friday, November 16, 2012, at Landmark Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was born April 15, 1938, in Cole County, Missouri, the daughter of Elmer and Lidwina (Veltrop) Wekenborg. On August 25, 1956, Marilyn was united in marriage to Walter L. Bruns, who preceded her in death on November 27, 2010. Marilyn's first job was at Woolworth Department Store at the age of 14, where she traveled across the US opening new stores. She also babysat in her home for many years, and had owned the Snack Shack restaurant/arcade and Tiny Tots Daycare in Taos, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos. She loved to travel to Branson, spending time with her family at the cabin on the Osage River, and growing flowers. Other survivors include two daughters: Kristie Lea and husband Ernie of Macon, and Gayle Doll and husband Travis of Jefferson City; five sons: Randy Bruns and wife Tina of Russellville, Tim Bruns and wife Jennifer of Wardsville, Darrell Bruns and wife Jennifer of Taos, Terry Bruns and friend January Rushing of Taos, and Kevin Bruns and wife Kari of Wardsville; nine grandchildren: Justin Bruns, Christopher Lueckenhoff, Travis Bruns, Dustin Bruns, Brooke Bruns, Nick Lea, Houston Rushing, Logan Bruns, and Lexie Bruns, and a grandson expected in 2013; three step-grandchildren and four step-great- grandchildren; three sisters: Anna Marie Schell of Taos, Barbara Haslag and husband Leroy of Jefferson City, Carol Feltrop and husband Bill of Rich Fountain; one brother-in-law: Robert (Bob) Bruns and wife Judy of Bonnots Mill; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother; James Wekenborg, mother and father-in-law, two sister-in-laws, three brother-in-laws, two nieces and a nephew. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2012, with a prayer service to be held at 3:30 p.m. at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Taos with additional visitation to be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St Jude's Children's Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project.
