Barbara Orenstein

Barbara Joseph Orenstein, age 80, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, in her home in Deerfield Beach, Fla., with her daughter Sheri by her side. Barbara was born September 25, 1931, in St. Louis, the daughter of David and Rose Rubenstein, both deceased. Barbara married Robert "Bob" Leo Orenstein, deceased, on November 8, 1953 in St. Louis. Barbara attended the University of Indiana. Barbara and her husband Bob owned and operated The Purple Shoppes in Jefferson City and Columbia. Barbara was awarded volunteer of the year by the Ladies Auxiliary at Memorial Hospital. Barbara was a past President of Temple Beth El Sisterhood. She and her husband were founding members of the "Little Theatre". During the Little Theatre's inception Barbara was active with the costume design, set design and props. Barbara was a stylist for Miss Missouri for several years and a long time volunteer for The March of Dimes. Barbara retired to Deerfield Beach, Fla. in 2001. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sheri (David) Jacobs, and grandchildren, Kayla and Bennett Jacobs of Nashville, Tenn.; and her son, Bruce (Kym) Orenstein, and grandchildren, Michelle, Kelsey, Jared, and great-grandchild, Braxton Orenstein all of Austin, Texas.
