Gerald Joseph Kampeter, 80, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born October 31, 1931, in Argyle, a son of Norbert H. and Kathleen Radmacher Kampeter. He was a 1949 graduate of Freeburg High School. On June 19, 1954, Gerald was united in marriage in Vienna to Lorene Schwartze, who survives at their home. In 1952, Gerald began working for the Missouri State Highway Department, where he retired in 1992, after 40 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus Council 1054, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight; Holy Name Society; and the Missouri Head Injury Council. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially golfing, and spending time with his family. He is also survived by one daughter, Janet Kampeter of Jefferson City; one son, Keith Kampeter and wife Kim of St. Louis; one brother, Ode Kampeter and wife Kaye of Meta; two sisters: Anna Marie Schulte of Meta, Linda Reichel and husband Larry of Argyle; and two grandchildren: Adam Kampeter and Chelsie Wysong. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Kampeter. Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Msgr. David D. Cox officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or masses.
